Common questions
How do I play?
- Draw one line that passes through every square on the board.
- Reach the numbers in order, starting at 1.
- Thick bars are walls. The line can't cross them.
- The line can't cross or touch itself.
- Drag back along the line to rub it out, or tap any square of the line to go back to it.
- Undo takes back one square, or puts back what a tap removed. Reset clears the line.
The ? button at the top of the game shows these rules any time.
How does the difficulty work?
There's nothing to set. The level rises when you solve boards comfortably and eases back if you're finding them hard. Your current level is shown at the top of the screen.
What does Hint do?
It draws an arrow showing the way to your next number. If your line has gone wrong, Hint first erases it back to your first mistake, and Undo straight afterwards puts it back.
When the button has the yellow ▶︎ AD tag on its corner, a short video plays first, and the arrow appears at the end, with no countdown afterwards. If you close the video before the end, there's no hint, and you can tap Hint again straight away. When there's no video to show, such as when you're offline, the arrow comes at once, and the button then counts down 10 seconds before you can take another.
The clock stops while a video plays, and hints never affect your times or your level.
Why do I see an ad?
Ads, added in version 1.1, keep Zip Unlimited free. A video can play only when you tap Hint, never at any other time, and every board can be solved without hints. Some players get no ads, such as those Apple or Google says are under 18. Their Hint button has no AD tag, and their hints come with the 10-second wait.
How do I report an ad?
In Settings, tap Report an ad. It opens an email to us with the details the ad network needs to find the ad. Tell us what was wrong and send it, and we'll pass it on. Do it before you close the game, so that the email can name the ad. If no email app opens, write to the address at the top of this page.
How do I share a board, or play one a friend sent me?
After you solve a board, tap Share and send the message however you like. To play a board someone sent you, copy their message, open Zip Unlimited, go to Settings, and paste it under Play someone's board. The whole message is fine, and the game finds the code in it.
Can I get a daily reminder?
Yes. Once you've solved your first board, turn on Daily reminder in Settings. It arrives in the early evening, and never on a day you've already played.
Will I lose my progress if I change phones?
Your progress is saved on your phone and included in its backup: iCloud on iPhone, Google on Android. If you set up a new phone from that backup, your progress comes with it. Deleting the app deletes your progress.
Does it need the internet?
No. You can play anywhere, in airplane mode too. Offline there are no ads, so each hint comes at once, followed by the 10-second wait.
Can I turn off vibration, or change the look?
Yes, both are in Settings: Vibration, and Appearance, which can follow your phone or stay light or dark.
How do I change my privacy choices?
The first time you tap Hint, the game may ask some questions first. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, that's InMobi's consent form, which asks again after 13 months or when the ad partners change. On iPhone, it can be Apple's request to share your age range, where an age law applies, and whether the game may track you. To change your answers later, open Settings and look under Ads and privacy:
- Privacy choices, in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, opens InMobi's consent form when you're online.
- Don't sell or share my info, everywhere else, stops the ad partners using information about you to choose your ads.
On iPhone, you can allow or stop tracking in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings: search for "Ads".
What does the game do with my data?
Your progress and settings stay on your phone, and the game sends nothing to us. To show ads, it shares information about your device with its ad partners, and in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland with InMobi's consent tool. The details, and your choices, are in our privacy policy.
